Current Project

The Journey of a River is a gigantic work on paper – a map, a timeline, a collection of ephemeral images merging into one, narrating the layers of place and time.

During the 2020 lockdowns, Kathryn’s work took on a very small format. The work focussed on a wetland theme stemming from earlier works and many wetland explorations with a conservation and land management focus. This became significant as the explored wetlands were out of reach with the Covid19 5km travel restriction. The only accessible wetland throughout the stay-at-home requirements, was a series of flood mitigation storm water ponds and creek reclamation projects within 1-2kms from home. In 2021, in retaliation to this confinement and restriction on studio space and materials, Kathryn commenced a gigantic 11 metre work on paper. The 2D work consists of a variety of watercolour and ink images representing geological structures, flora and fauna endemic to the Melbourne area and melds it into an indeterminate timeline, touching on the Holocene and traversing the river through to white settlement.
